Visit one of the world’s top spots for watching mantas

In Taketomijima, Okinawa, where Hoshinoya Okinawa is located, you can encounter mantas all year round.
There is a very high chance of encountering mantas in the ocean around Yaeyama, making it an excellent spot for diving that is unlike any other in the world. It is one of the world’s top spots for watching mantas due to the particularly high probability of encountering them.

Not only there is a high chance of seeing them, but the water is also exceptionally clear, and the depth where they can be seen is relatively shallow.

Star Stories: A guided tour of the stars

Experience the embrace of the Milky Way
Of the 88 star constellations, 84 can be seen from HOSHINOYA Okinawa. The starlit skies of Taketomi Island become the map for an original guided tour – get a glimpse into the rich culture and history of Taketomi through the unique relationship between the stars and the people.

The Yaeyama Islands is the perfect spot for stargazing, as 84 stars, including the Southern Cross, can be seen lighting up the sky. Because Taketomi Island is a small island with a perimeter of only 9km, and the highest point only being 20m above sea level, an uninterrupted view of the horizon spreads right in front of your eyes – it is as if the grand Milky Way is enveloping you. There are also many old stories relating to stars on Taketomi Island, passed through the generations. Spend a memorable summer here, an unforgettable night only Taketomi Island can offer.

(1)Star Stories
The storyteller is a trained professional guide who not only can point out the stars in the sky, but is also knowledgeable in the culture and history of the relationship between the stars and the people of Taketomi.

Ninufabushi, a unique Taketomi word, represents the North Star. According to an old Taketomi tale, the Ninufabushi is the father to all the stars in the southern sky. Look up at the stars deeply rooted in the daily lives of the islanders.

The Light from the “Shell Lanterns”.

At the Akoukurou (Ryukyu dialect meaning “time of sunset”), when you relax your body, why not gaze at the beautiful sky that changes moment by moment.
On the soft grass that surrounds the oval pool in the center of the villa, shell lanterns are lit. The lanterns are made from button shells and giant clam shells from Taketomi Island. We also prepare a picnic set, which includes our original herbal tea that induces good quality sleep.

Please enjoy the delights of the night, where the stars shine and fireflies dance, along with the peace and quiet that befalls, by the waters on the grass where people tell stories.
